Secretary-general:Ronald Wu, St George’s School

Ronald is currently a junior attending St George’s School and is ecstatic to serve as the Secretary-general of Vancouver Mock Trial 2019. Since starting his journey of social justice and law in his freshman year, Ronald has always been passionate about perusing the trajectory of social activism, law, and justice, attending some national and international mock trial competitions. Outside of the mock trial, Ronald’s participation in organizing feminist NGOs have encouraged him to further explore political and judicial leverage in social injustices and conflicts as a lifelong learner. Ronald also enjoyed working during his vacations as a paralegal, where he enhanced his understanding of the nuances of the criminal system and the paradoxical moral values of substantial justice.

Director-general: Phillip Xia, St George’s School

Phillip is a senior at St. George’s School and has been involved with Mock Trial, Forensics, and Model U.N for the past six years. With the experience of living in four countries (Canada, Singapore, Myanmar, China), Phillip has a diverse background and fond recollections of his travels. Outside of the courtroom, he can be found reading international relations journals, binge-watching K-dramas and engaging in political debates with his peers. Phillip is looking forward to sharing his perspective and expertise through Vancouver Mock Trial 2019.

Director of Academics:

Jason Lin, Cheshire Academy

Jason is a senior at Cheshire Academy in United States. Passionate about public speaking and debating, he has been doing mock trial for three years and won the Ranking First Outstanding Witness at Empire Mock Trial World Championship 2018 with a perfect score. Other trophies related to public speaking and writing include ChinaThinksBig National Grand Prize and High Commendation from John Locke Philosophy Essay Competition. Jason hopes all delegates the best of luck at VMT 2019.

Max Wang, Macalester College

Originally from Vancouver, Max graduated from Macalester College with bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and international politics. During his college career, Max won a number of individual and team awards, including Best Witness in the 2015 Minnesota Regional Tournament and 2014 Minnesota Regional Championship. With the experience of numerous mock trial tournaments and awards, Max sees himself as an educator, serving as the CFO of Stoooges Education and Director of Academics in Peer Potential Mock Trial. He also coaches the Chinese national team entering Empire Mock Trial every fall in San Francisco and New York. He is delighted to offer his insights and academic guidance to Vancouver Mock Trial 2019.

Director of Logistics:

Steven Long, St George’s School

A junior at St. George’s School physically deteriorating at an alarming rate, Steven is absolutely delighted to serve as one of your Director of Logistics. Outside of Mock Trial, Steven can be found poorly scanning Vergil’s great works, hitting the buzzer too late in the game that spawned Jeopardy, idly browsing Wiktionary, or shamefully savouring Oriental artwork. With many of his most cherished memories made engaging in the art of the spoken word, Steven foresees an incredibly memorable and rewarding weekend for all.

Jamin Feng, St George’s School

Jamin is currently a junior at St. George’s Senior School and is extremely excited to be the director of logistics for the first ever Vancouver Mock Trial. Jamin has been interested in law, debate, and international relations since he was a little child and plans to study law or political sciences in the future. Jamin looks forward to seeing everyone at the Vancouver Mock Trial 2019!

Director of Communications and Operations: Cindy Gao, Pearson UWC

Cindy is a senior at Lester B. Pearson United World College of the Pacific. Having been trapped in the forest of Vancouver Island for the last two years, she is delighted to come back to civilization and serve as the Director of Operations and Communications. As a lover of public speaking and debating, Cindy has served as captain of WSDC Team China and organized tournaments all across China. Her experience in Mock Trial is, in her own words, close to non-existent. For the last week, she has exhausted much of her debating skills trying to convince herself that the ability required for these two activities are “pretty much the same thing”. Cindy hopes all delegates the best of luck at VMT 2019.

Director of Conference and Finance: Margaret Peng, UWC Costa Rica/Amherst College

Margaret is a senior in United World College of Costa Rica. Living in a country which is located just between 8 and 12 degrees north of the equator, She likes investing her time in the fascinating world of flights and hotels to endure the heat. She’s honored to be the Director of Finance and Conference for VMT 2019. Before Margaret drowned into the world of calculations of miles and scrutiny of aircrafts, she had facilitated numerous tournaments across China, organized several large-scale MUN conferences and also participated in 2 national Mock Trials and 1 international one. Margaret had some of her best times when impersonating a psychopathic gangster and wishes all the attorneys and witnesses to have the most crazy ride in Vancouver’s very first endearing mock trial.

Director of External Affairs: Samuel Chen, St George’s School

Currently a senior at St. George’s school, Samuel is ecstatic to serve as the Director of External Affairs at VMT 2019! He has been involved with Mock Trial, Debate, and Model UN for the past 5 years and hopes to contribute his experience and expertise to the conference. Outside of VMT, Samuel can be found exploring new restaurants, listening to Malcolm Gladwell Podcasts, and reading academic journals. He enjoys playing ultimate, hanging out with friends, and going on spontaneous adventures. Samuel hopes that your experience at VMT 2018 will be an unforgettable one!

Director of Media and Design: Alex Sun, St George’s School

Alex is a junior at St. George’s School and is thrilled to serve as the Director of Media for Vancouver Mock Trial 2019. With experience in both fields, Alex involves himself in business and photographing in a variety of genres. Outside of Mock Trials, Alex can be found endlessly listening to R&B, pursuing his substandard ski racing career, and catching up on sleep. Alex looks forward to a phenomenal and rewarding weekend of debate and wishes everyone the best.

Director of Information Technology: Estelle Zhang, Exp. High School Attached to Beijing Normal University

Estelle is a senior at the Experimental High School Attached to Beijing Normal University. She serves as the Director of IT of VMT 2019. With experience in Mock Trial both in and outside of her school, Estelle has been repeatedly inspired by seeking for the truth within limited facts, employing logical reasoning critical from different angles, realizing the opposite character of law – precise yet flexible. Outside of Mock Trial, Estelle enjoys filmmaking, long-distance cycling, and exploring the intersection of political science, economics, public policy, and technology. She can also be found at the gym, cooking fusion food, and studying various languages every day. Estelle looks forward to a fruitful event with extraordinary arguments and debates.
